Vancouver fashion week 2018!

Since it’s creation in 2001, Vancouver fashion week has enticed it’s attendees with lush multicultural designs from across the globe. The event has it’s focus fixed on showcasing some of the best up and coming designers world wide as well as locally.

This year, hosted under the tents in the Vancouver art gallery plaza, members of METRO (both retailers and agents) were treated to a warm welcome as they entered the tents on the red carpet. After taking a seat, ones eye couldn’t help but to flit across the vibrantly dressed crowd while waiting for the show to start. The front row accommodated for some of fashions biggest voices, from the likes of miss J. Alexander (as seen on America’s next top model) to Diane Pernet (Blogger – A shaded view of fashion) amongst other well renowned fashion figures!

The colours and textures wrapped into the styles created by the hard working designers was a testament not only to the architecture and hard work that this industry demands but also an example of how creativity can take many forms. The event is a great place to find new inspiration and source beautiful locally designed lines.

Day one saw the opening Gala of the event and the announcing of the Vancouver originator awards, which are awarded to veterans who have made a significant contribution to the local fashion industry.

The nominees are veted by a panel of judges
comprising of Jamal Abdourahman (VFW founder,) Sarah Murray (VFW community relations manager) and the previous winners of the industry originator awards.

The 6 categories consist of – retailer, wholesaler/distributor, teacher, journalist, photographer makeup/hair and special recognition.

METRO is proud to say that two of it’s very own members snagged two of the originator awards:

Terry Shindler (METRO rep) – Wholesaler/distributor

Plenty (METRO buyer) – Retailer

VFW is the perfect place to blow off some steam on the weekend after the second METRO of the season, for information regarding buying and attending next seasons showing please contact sarahmurray@vanfashionweek.com!
