Vancouver Eats

Vancouver’s restaurant scene is constantly expanding with new bars and restaurants opening up every time you turn around. With Vancouver’s melting pot of cultures, there is every type of cuisine you can think of; Thai, Mexican, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, the list goes on! No matter your flavour, you can always find something that suits your palate. I’ve comprised a list of a few of my local goto favourites for a night out!

GASTOWN

Tacofino Gastown
Tacofino famously started out as a taco food truck in the west coast surf town of Tofino, BC. They are well known for their delicious fish tacos, and their west coast inspired Mexican cuisine. The Gastown location is notable for a few key reasons. 1, The decor is a cool mixture of Baja, westcoast mixed with the heritage brick facade typical of historical Gastown. 2, The restaurant is split into two parts, the take out Burrito bar on one side for your fast, togo burrito needs, and a taco bar on the other to dine in, eat tacos and enjoy some margaritas. 3, The nachos are the best in the city. NO LIE! Nacho lovers, unite, then go to Tacofino!

YALETOWN

If you are looking for a classy night out, Yaletown is the place to go. Full of trendy restaurants, lounges and cocktail bars, there’s tons of options for dining. One place not to miss for seafood lovers, is Rodney’s Oyster House. Arguably serving the best Caesar in the city, made with fresh horseradish and a prawn garnish, it steps the Canadian cocktail up to a whole new level. If you can make it in time, Rodney’s happy hour menu runs Monday through Saturday and offers buck a shuck oysters. They also have a second location in Gastown.

CHINATOWN

One of the top 3 places in the city, if not the first, to get cocktails is none other than the Keefer Bar in Chinatown. Featuring an unique “apothecary” cocktail concept and asian street food tapas, Keefer Bar is a sleek, one of a kind place for mixology enthusiasts. Also, every Thursday the Keefer Bar hosts a burlesque show. If you are looking for dinner after some drinks at Keefer, Bao Bei a few doors down is excellent for some delicious chinese fusion cuisine.

OLYMPIC VILLAGE

Up and coming Olympic Village is seeing quite a few new restaurants opening up, complimenting the neighborhood’s established brewery scene. One of my new favourites is Bao Down, which is an asian inspired sandwich shop serving vietnamese and thai street sandwiches, noodles bowls and delicious kimchi fries. They have recently expanded from a small Gastown eatery to a second location gastropub style restaurant in Olympic village. Their most popular dish would have to be their steamed bao bun sandwiches, a popular street food in many parts of Asia.
